The Suffolk village of Tannington Green was a village scattered around nine acres of open green land situated about 4 miles north east of Framlington and 7 miles north west of Debenham. Most of the land was owned by the Earl of Stradbroke who was the Lord of the Manor. In the middle of the 18th century a race meeting was held on the open green land on Thursday 4th October 1753 involving two horses. Over the 4 mile course Small Hoper got the better of Mad Tom, although there are no further records of racing taking place in the village.
